MTV's pro-social campaign, Think MTV, launched a stand-alone website to help young people network and bring meaningful change to the world. I was brought on in 2007 to guide the launch and art direct new initiatives, including Choose or Lose 2008. The site was a social network allowing users to upload videos, blog, and start discussions. The site won an Emmy Award in 2008.

In February 2008 we relaunched the site for MTV Tr3s, transitioning from an all-flash build to a CSS driven design. This allowed us to take advantage of the video and community platforms of MTV.com. I worked closely with channel creatives to create a template design that complimented the style of the channel.

For MTV2's Sic 'Emation programming we created a new, skinable shows template. Each show site could be made-over to reflect on-air packaging without burdening production resources. The template also gave fresh promotional opportunities to the show's main page, including embedded Flash video, tune-in info and DVD tie in.

For the 2006 season of the MTV2 battle of the bands show Dew Circuit Breakout, Mountain Dew wanted a site that reflected their brand and would drive repeat traffic. Working closely with the Onair and Ad sales departments, we created a multi-platform experience. The centerpiece of the project was the voting application. It had a visual payoff of numerals indicating how many votes users cast and fans posted screen shots of their click numbers on their social networking sites. Mountain Dew was happy.

MTV: Pimp My Ride

mtv-pmr-01 mtv-pmr-02 mtv-pmr-03 The premiere of the new show Pimp My Ride on MTV needed a fun online component and our producers had the idea of doing customizable cars. We decided to create an Flash toy that allowed users to pick a base car type, then customize it with different paint, wheels and accessories. I had spent much of my youth drawing wicked machines and was delighted to have a chance to work on this project. After developing a quick flash POC I then drew 3 different cars; classic, coupe and SUV. I had a blast creating parts like hood scoops, flames, sidepipes, etc. Working with our Flash developers we put the interaction together and launched the toy with the premiere. The show was a huge success and the toy consistently came up in the top 30 pages on the MTV.com site for almost 3 years.

My focus on consistency in site architecture and design detail led to my designation as Senior Designer in charge of cross-site design standards for MTV.com. Working with site design parameters for the US site set in early 2002, I developed an intranet style guide reference for designers and producers. I was also lead designer in a variety of facelifts implemented on the homepage, hub pages and cross-site navigation, as well as a template for dynamic show content.
