THE DISASTER PLAN OF A FAMILY OF FOUR
-Statement
-The Family
-Scenario 1: Escape from NYC
-Scenario 2: Hunker Down
-Scenario 3: Evacuation
"Some disasters will require employees to leave the workplace quickly. The ability to evacuate workers, customers and visitors effectively can save lives. People who plan and practice how they will get out of the building in an emergency are better prepared than those who do not have an exit strategy. "

LEAVING THE ISLAND
Jay and Désirée both work in Times Square, the self described
“Center of the World”. While a normal commute is approximately
30 minutes, the couple experienced a much longer trip during the blackout
of August, 2003. Leaving Times Square 5 minutes after the outage, it took
3 hours to arrive home by ferry. For some residents it took much longer.
Times Square & 1515 Broadway
RENDEVOUS
Jay works on the 16th floor of 1515 Broadway, while Désiré is at 1560 Broadway. In the event of an emergency the couple has 2 planned rendevous locations. Both are on 46th St, first is an immediate spot at 9th Ave., the other is a waiting spot at the West Side Highway.
GETTING BACK HOME
Residents of NJ who work in Manhattan do not have the ability to cross
bridges by foot in the event of transportation outages as some New York
borough residents can. There are numerous options to get to Hoboken, but
they are all dependant upon critical infrastructure which may not be available.
